    Hello
There is no difference between “None” and “Brush” when you are using the Gray color, because I think gray with brush is ugly, but you will see that brush is better if you switch to other colors :)

I’ll add a white color background to location bar and search bar next time.

Yes, there will be options to customize that background, but not now, we need to set a right format for it first.
And the UFO is a test, I need to change its position at all bottom bars next time, I just forgot it…

You can edit .jar file with 7zip, that’s what I use, you just need to replace the the res/toolbar/ufo.png with your image, if you have trouble on this, send it to me, I’ll change it for you…

    2 reasons I removed them from 3.6
    1. Single click on tabbar caused a weird bug before
    2. In firefox 4, you can drag it from Tab Toolbar to the customize window, like how we do the same to toolbar buttons.

But I’ll try if I can fix that weird bug later :)

    Hi
Adding them back is a hard job.

Firefox 4 will do the same as what I’m doing to these buttons right now, they put every button icon into a button background, and keep the icon small. Those buttons like Camino and Rhino etc will break this balance, and it’s hard to deal with other extensions.

So I’m not sure at this time…

    I have some questions:

    1. Take a look at the outline/halo effect around the text: http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/3972/capturegk.png
As far as I remember, that was caused from an option for Glassier compatibility in one of your previous versions. Do you know how to fix it?

    2. I think that none of your tone of gray/silver matches exactly to the original Safari 4 color: http://images.apple.com/safari/images/overlay-topsites-1-20090529.jpg
I think that you have to adjust them a bit.

Very advanced techniques .. you have all my respect!

You don’t know why the standard “.tabs-newtab-button {display: none !important;} ” doesn’t work in UserChrome.css but only with this plugin I mentioned erlier? Next thing I’ll try is to replace the backgroundwith the pinstripe design. Unfortunately your theme offers only the customization for the complete panel. I want all *but* the personal bookmark bar and the tab-bar to be pinstriped. Any ideas?

You can get the codes for white background location bar and searchbar from the mac/browser/textbox.css, I removed them from windows version by mistake

Just replace it with the part between /* */
3 files you need to replace
    1. browser/textbox.css
    2. browser/extension.css (easy to find at top part, it’s for the DOMI)
    3. browser/places/organize.css

I’ll try new tab button later

Pinstripe… you can tell me what color you want on nav-bar and what color on bookmarks bar and tabbar

    1. You don’t want the text-shadow? They are everywhere in the world of css3, especially in the mac world…

    2. The Gradient of Snow Leopard is from #d1d1d1 to #a7a7a7, you might need to hide the menubar on window if you want the exactly same toolbar, if you mean it doesn’t match the OS theme you are using, then it’s OS theme’s problem, see below, Finder–Safari4–Foxdie 3.6

    3. Yes, Safari4 is still using Lucida Grande as other Apple Apps

    You are right about everything.
    1. I was using the silver color, which made the effect more visible. In gray it’s more subtle.
    2. I have set the menubar hidden. In this mode the gradient effect it’s not fully deployed.
    3. Check the comparison with the real Safari: http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3619/67346614.png
Yes the fonts are the same, but in Snow Leopard is way more beautiful. I think it’s the way that Snow Leopard renders fonts in general. So, it’s not your blame
    4. Can you do something with the spot I’ve highlighted in the above screenshot? It would be nice if you could mimic the curve. :)

Btw, sorry about my poor English. I hope that you understand what I’m trying to say

    3. Fonts display much better in OS X than in Windows, some people use Gdi++ to make it look like on OS X…

    4. That need to use images, and it’s very hard to control when I want to unify everything of the tabbar…

Another reason is that it caused a weird bug to some users in version 3.5.2, so I think it’s no need to make it exactly the same as Safari.

I changed how icons work on toolbars, so it’s a little hard on that Apple icon for compact menu 2, but it won’t be a big problem, because Firefox 4 will use an APP button to kill the menubar. ;-)

Since it’s caused by an old profile, then you should fix the old profile instead, but fixing it is meaningless , old profiles only slow down Firefox, you will find that everything is faster with a new one.

This isn’t what you are thinking, but you can try it

The Gray unified toolbar has been used by default

    .toolbar-primary,
    window > toolbox:nth-of-type(1) > toolbar:nth-of-type(1) {
    -moz-appearance: -moz-mac-unified-toolbar;
    }

so the “Gray” option does nothing on the Navigation Toolbar, it changes only Toolbars and Tab bar to match the Gray default Unified Toolbar.

But what you are trying to do is to change it to a different gradient background, then you will have what other colors just have, the title bar won’t change, and you will always have the “white bar between toolbar and titlebar” as you have mentioned.

THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE IT ON FIREFOX 3.6, ONLY FIREFOX 4 CAN DO IT BECAUSE OF THIS https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513158

If you are still trying to do it.
You need to do the following:

    extract the foxdie_ext.xpi…
    extract the chrome/foxdie.jar
    go to skin/mac/app/

    You will see

    1. nav.css
    2. skin/mac/app/solid/(colors).css
    3. skin/mac/app/solid/3/(colors).css
    skin/mac/app/solid/4/(colors).css
    skin/mac/app/solid/des/(colors).css
    skin/mac/app/solid/down/(colors).css
    skin/mac/app/solid/fire/(colors).css

For example, if you want to add a SnowTune color here, you need change one into it, don’t try with the gray.css, it will be more complicate and it won’t give you a unified toolbar on 3.6. try other colors, like pink3.css.

    change the skin/mac/app/solid/pink3.css first
then change the skin/mac/app/solid/4/pink3.css if you are using the Safari4 style

How to change these 2 files? I’m afraid you might not be interested in it anymore, especially after you open these files, I guess you have known why it isn’t a good idea to add option to let users customize the colors themselves, because it is not easy to set a good color, most colors would be horrible on the themes…

    I’m not sure right now

As you might have seen that I posted some screenshots about another dark foxdie before, but it breaks too many places when I tried to make every window dark with white texts, so I need to redesign it later.

The easiest way for me is making only the main-window dark, then I can bring back those 2 dark themes

No, I meant “disable”, not “hide”. Like the behavior of the tab when it is alone. There is no close button. I don’t know if it is possible to have this behavior. I tried to change the browser.tabs.closeButtons value (about:config) from 1 to 0, but there is no visible change.

You are welcome, and that’s why we can’t release it in time…

The key is not Foxdie 4 but Firefox 4, we will release version 4 for the nightly build of Firefox in a month, then you don’t need to wait for FF 4, because the nightly build is already FF 4 alpha.

I’m not. The font is the same, but it did change my preset size. I worked around it by going into my OS preferences and changing it there. Just FYI, using this theme changes the font and the font size even in other Firefox add-ons, like Echofon, which I use for Twitter. It’s not a big deal at all, but it definitely happens.

Still. This is a tremendous theme: you delivered big time, John. Thank you so much!

Thanks to your Foxdie and Firefox, I don’t have to stare at the ugly and clunky Safari GUI.

Curious. What kind of changes are to be expected in the newer versions of Foxdie, both 3.6.2 and 4? Looking at some of the screenshots, it doesn’t look too different.

I just hope that Mozilla improves on FF’s efficiency some (it’s a little bloated), especially when Flash is around, when they release FF 4.

Files that store information about the extensions you have installed can sometimes be corrupted. Deleting them can fix a number of extension issues; they will be regenerated the next time you start Firefox. [16][17]. Exit Firefox completely, then open your Firefox profile folder (read the linked article for its location) and delete* these three files:

    extensions.ini
    extensions.cache
    extensions.rdf

    * Note : Although unwanted files/folders can be deleted, renaming them is generally considered a safer option. This achieves the same result, but allows the user to retrieve any possibly required information from them later on. In the case above, rename the above 3 files as , ‘extensionsOLD.ini’, ‘extensionsOLD.cache’, ‘extensionsOLD.rdf’ Installing themes or extensions may fail with the message, Unexpected installation error -203. (If this occurs after a Software Update you may find that add-ons that were previously installed also do not work.) Follow the above directions to remove corrupt extension files. [18] If the problem is not resolved and you use ZoneAlarm or CA Firewall, disable it temporarily (enable Windows Firewall in the interim) to allow the installation. [19] If the problem persists, your profile may be corrupt (bug 361358). Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile [20] or create a new default profile [21] and then transfer your data to the newly-created profile.

    Hi :)

    Some information here:

    1. #178 is very hard to explain clearly, most of the problems he mentioned is of the “Hide Caption” extension, I want to reply everyone instead of jumping to #179… Also, I haven’t had time to change the theme for Michael yet…

    2. I said 2-3 weeks… but I had to spend 2 weeks on fixing and changing for feedback of 3.6.1, so I just need 2 more weeks to finish 3.6.2, this is out of my plan, and I’ve re-picked all the color and optimize many details in 3.6.2. It will be released soon…

    3. This guy asked me to help him with a theme, I said “YES” so have to share him some time

Hi, your questions are the hardest for me to explain clearly, I can now simply say that most of those are that extension’s problem except your 2nd screenshot, its author should change that instead of my doing that for it, and I think this extension will be dead when Firefox 4 comes out, Hiding the chrome frame would never be a good idea to me :)

Thanks for all of your hard work John. Thanks to you, my FF looks all slick and clean like it used to – I like a thin and clutter free toolbar area (more area for information).I was curious to see what Safari 5 would bring to the table (was kinda hoping they would make some GUI changes) and was once again disappointed. Thanks to your Foxdie and Firefox, I don’t have to stare at the ugly and clunky Safari GUI.Curious.What kind of changes are to be expected in the newer versions of Foxdie, both 3.6.2 and 4?Looking at some of the screenshots, it doesn’t look too different.I just hope that Mozilla improves on FF’s efficiency some (it’s a little bloated), especially when Flash is around, when they release FF 4.Beautiful work as always man. Thanks! :)

Thanks, the differences between Foxdie 3.6 and 4.0 is like the one between Firefox 3.6 and 4.0

John,I thought of a couple of questions/suggestions.Would it be possible to have the “+” for adding a bookmark (visible with the “Safari4 Location Bar” selected) support graphite illumination rather than just the aqua blue?I was also wondering if it would be possible to add support to change the color of the folders used for bookmarks (the drop down menus for the bookmarks toolbar)? Thanks again for all your hard work and an outstanding theme :)

I’d tried graphite + before, but it won’t look good, because graphite is a little blue and gray and dark, it won’t be so standout anymore, after that I understand why Apple never use Graphite on such icons

Changing details like the folder icons will let users thought that I can change everything for them, it will lead to a not that good situation which is I can’t maintain all of these anymore :(
But… it’s easy, if you want to change it yourself, you only need to replace mac(win)/global/tree/folder.png and folder-open.png

No, Safari never has this feature, it’s a plug-in.
But Foxdie is never a emulation of Safari, it’s a features pack I and my friends like.

    Hey John,

I’m back again. I have to change the description of the problem. Maybe it’s easier to fix now. (Just by changing sth in the settings). I’m using a laptop via mousepad (w/o mouse). I found out that the resizing window is not caused by doubleclicking. It’s as if I hold the left mouse button and moving the mouse. Of course I don’t provoke it (just want to make a double click with the mouse button and my fingertip still touches the pad (and obviously is enough for starting the resize process …) Ok, one could say, change your cklicking behavior. But the strange thing is that this doesn’t happen with the default theme applied. I can’t resize the window via this method in default theme.
Maybe it is just a adjustments in my options???

Another thing is: How can I move the text search from the right side in the statusbar the the left side (like in the default theme)?

    Thanks
