A: To answer this question, I really need to fix my time machine first.
3. Q: Okay, how come it takes so long? I’ve been waiting for something from you since 2008…
A: I feel sorry to keep you waiting, but I want to make something different, and as you can see, I upgraded Foxdie with huge changes from version 1.0(released in 2007) to 3.5(released in 2009). I rewrote this suit many times just because it’s not easy for me to maintain and not friendly for users to use, all of that need time. And now I’m happy to tell you that you will have the upgraded versions very fast once I launch Foxdie 3.6 with its new customization…
4. Q: So…what’s new in Foxdie 3.6?
A: See the screen shot below, new UI and functions, it’s more complicate than what we(me and my partners) thought it would be, that’s why it’s not ready to release now, we are still working on it, before that, you can’t customize it, since you can’t customize it, how can I release it now? But I guess we can finish it soon…
5. Q: Soon? Do you mind if I expect it would be this month?

What if F 3.7 will be released, will the theme work?

Don’t worry, Firefox 3.7 is still in Alpha, before it comes out, beta1–>beta2–>beta3–>beta4–>beta5–>RC1–>RC2, I’m afraid that would be months later.
Now I’m trying to release Foxdie 3.6 this month, but please note that I haven’t said “This week”, let’s see if I can made it.
And I’ll upgrade it to 3.7 once I release 3.6, it will be very fast, I think I can release version 3.7 before Firefox 3.7 comes out, because I’ve known and set the right direction of “How to customize it”

As usual, 3.7 does some graphics, and such, differently but there should be no problem if you use something like “Nightly Tester Tools: There will probably be some “artifacts” but Foxdie should work; other extensions on the other hand… well that’s another story. Case in point, I’m using Foxdie 3.6b1 with the latest builds of 3.7 with very little problem.

Hi John,
I really appreciate your sense for clean and beautiful design.
However, the first thing I usually do with these mac themes: Modifiy the blue scrollbars into something more eye-friendly. I like the graphite color scheme a lot, because it’s so un-obstrusive.
Any chance you include this sooner or later?

I tried 3.6 beta 1, but it didn’t display even the defaults very well. Now I cannot go back to 3.5.2? I keep getting either “203″ or “228″ errors on the main download and both mirrors. Anyone know of any fix for this?

I undersand it’s a lot to do, and that it takes time. I know he makes good stuff, the best themes for firefox actually.
But instead of making one HUGE pack that takes ages to create, he could have lounched versions without all his plans..
Do you think Mozilla creates the new Firefox with EVERTHING they wish in it? No, they create a version and keeps working on it. So should John Locke do aswell.

There are only 2 options about fonts in 3.6
1. Use Lucida Grande (3.6 will use the OS font by default as the default theme)
2. Use regular font

Actually I’m the fastest one on theming, but not the fastest one on releasing, the reason is that I can’t and I don’t want to release a super nerd themes pack without a good and friendly user interface. Try imagining if I tell you that you need to add 200-300 lines of different combination into your userChrome.css, what will you think? And most of the Firefox users don’t even know how to reorganize their toolbar buttons. How can I do this to them? How can I release it without a good way of customization? Most of these users will be afraid to use it and this is what I can’t let it happens.

I can give you screenshots of the current beta for 3.6 on Linux if you need them. Right now major problem is position of the Last button in the findBar (findBar.css in the theme) (I cannot click Previous on the toolbar). Icons that are not 16×16 get stretched weirdly on the bookmarks toolbar. Of course I hope the ability to disable icons on the toolbar will be available, it was a big deal when I was using 3.5. Some add-ons get SLIGHTLY affected badly (Firebug for example) by your theme, but nothing major.
Please let me know. I’d really love to have a fully compatible Linux version. 3.5 worked great.

I love the look of the revamped Foxdie theme! It was an awesome theme in 3.5 and before, and it actually caused me to downgrade from 3.6. Until I realised that you were working on the 3.6 version. I’d be more than willing to offer my services should you need someone willing to try the pre-release version (though I think everyone who tried Foxdie will be the same). I look forward to seeing the 3.6 release in the flesh, as the beta didn’t really tide me over. I can’t wait to see all of these incredible new options for myself. Good luck finishing it this month, and I shall continue to visit daily in the hope that there is more good news!

Just take your time man, your work until now has been so great that I just feel absolutly satisfied using it on my browser. The one and only thing is that users want to upgrade firefox. But anyway, at least me, I’m not so hurried about upgrading and I think many users feel the same. Foxdie 3.5 has been a great browsing experience. Specially for us, Windows users who haven’t the money for getting the “all wonderfull macintosh thing” xD and like to customize our machines (hey, I’m still on XP only because of customizing! xD). Man, it’s a really stupid idea to create a firefox theme for a half year and make people believe it’s almost finished. Foxdie’s fans are upset watching it’s never-ending progress.
I suggest the author to discontinue posting those disappointing “progress” posts and post the theme when it’s done. If he will continue adding new features to v3.6 I believe firefox 4 final will be released sooner so this theme will be forgotten as v3.5 now is.

Any one who can’t wait ’til John releases v3.6 should follow Franky’s instructions.
The method he described to get the 3.5 version working in Firefox 3.6 is PERFECT! I can’t thank you enough Franky. I, like many, was really disappointed when John Locke failed to release the 3.6 release time and time again. Even worse, John didn’t even bother to keep us up to date with more blog enteries or at least the release of another 3.6 beta. There were a couple of additions I wanted to make to Franky’s method, but the credit goes to Franky for his discovery. My “additions” are in brackets..they’re not necessary, but if you’re a noob like me, I hope they help. Just to reiterate, the credit rightfully goes to Franky for his tip
Now you can use v.3.5 on Firefox 3.6 until John release his v.3.6…whenever he can.
1. Install the “MR Tech Toolkit” extension from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/421/
2. Restart Firefox >click Tools > Addons > Extensions> MR Toolkit Options button
3. Go to the “Miscellaneous” tab and UNCHECK the “Enable Addons Compatibility Checking”
4. Click OK, and head back to foxdie.us and download the v.3.5 of this theme from the homepage by clicking the “download Foxdie” blue button on the homepage.
5.[ A dialog box may open up saying "Would you like to remove "Extension Installation Delay". Click NO and proceed to installing Foxdie theme.]
6.[ As the theme is being installed, it'll tell you at the top of the bar that addon compatibility checking is disabled, would you like to enable it...ignore it.]
7.[ Restart your browser..foxdie theme should be what you see. If you don't, like I didn't, go to Tools>Addons>Themes> and click on "Use theme" next to Foxdie. Restart> done!]

I have one request if you don’t mind having an option to keep OS GUI, such as scrollbar, menu, tool tip, etc. Just so it doesn’t contradict OS GUI. Even though I do like the progress bars in download manager, change of fonts, tabs, & certain UI extras.
I don’t know how much of a trouble this would be (

Yes, like you said, what you mentioned is a big trouble to me, and it can’t made as option, the only solution is to make a new foxdie theme which I can’t maintain
