Foxdie 3.6 Progress

Friday, January 22nd, 2010 by John Locke Categories: Firefox, Gallery, Themes Tags: , , , , 64 Responses

I thought I would give you guys an update on Foxdie 3.6:

I have been working on it for over 2 months now. I still need some more time to finish it. There is a good chance that I will release it by next month.

If I remember correctly, most people prefer the round location bar and no divider line between the location bar and the bookmarks bar. I noticed that Safari, Chrome, and Firefox 4 do this by default, so I have convinced myself that it does look better. So I have redesigned the round location bar so it it much better than it was before. I also redesigned it to make the “full night” layouts.

1. Buttons ( ?% Complete )
I need to rebuild the Foxdie button system. The Snow Leopard style buttons will be used in Foxdie 3.6 by default (In Foxdie 3.5, the Camino buttons were the default). Additionally, I will be adding several new button styles! There will also be round buttons, similar to iTunes!

2. Layouts ( 50% Complete ) – Can someone please suggest a better name than “layouts”?
Safari 3, Safari 4, Camino, Sarata, as well as metal gloss/brush/wood will be added in Foxdie 3.6. Personas support will be added as well.

3. “Favicons”, “Tab Stuff”, and “Location Bar” will be merged into “Items” ( 100% Complete )
a. Favicons will be displayed on the search bar, bookmarks bar, and tab bar by default. I think hiding them by default confused many Windows and Linux users. You will be able to change this if you do not like this.
b. The tab X will be on the left side of the tab in Mac OS X by default. The tab X will be on the right side of the tab in Windows and Linux by default. You will have the ability to change this if you do not like this.
c. The “round location bar” and “no separator” options will be enabled by default. You will have the ability to change this if you do not like this.

4. Bottom Bars ( 100% Complete )

5. Miscellaneous ( 100% Complete )

Below are some screenshots of some new buttons and options that will be available to you in Foxdie 3.6. Cheers from the island… ;)

Hi, I would like to make a small request for version 3.6…can you keep Rounded URL Bars as an option instead of by default only? I’ve sent you an email explaining why. I tried to explain it in this comment box but it wouldn’t submit for some reason. Thanks again…great job as always!!!

Yes, Brush was supposed to be released in 3.5, but I postponeed it to 3.6

I had an idea, why not add the navigation buttons from the proposed FF 3.7 mockup (seen here: wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/3.7_Mac_Theme_Mockups), if you can and isn’t too much work that is.

I really like this theme although I’m not a Mac user. But one thing I miss is the graphite version. The blue scroll-bar and options buttons are the most horrible thing that Mac OS design has. What about a nice gray (or even blue) but plain (and not fancy aqua) scroll bar? Nice work of yours.

I’m currently using the Stylish extension with tons of scripts that work perfectly with Foxdie 3.5.2 and Firefox 3.5.7. I have no problems what-so-ever. Perfect Theme…should be even Better in version 3.6!!!

Being a Mac user (please keep the boos to a minimum) I have grown accustomed to a nice clean interface, and the ability to change what I don’t like. Kudos to your work, it’s a body of beauty that only makes FF a better browser.

Personally I like “Scheme”, “Schema” or “Frame” as a replacement for “Layout”.

    Keep up the great work,

    Cheers

Love your theme, it’s the best out of all. It really sucks that without it, my firefox feels a bit plain and empty. Your style brings a little edge to our browser, so we as users have to thank you for contributing with such perfection and hard work. Looking forward with using your updated theme.

Please make these options in 3.6:

    – disable dragging window, I often click accidentally wrong place, and window moves (and switches from full window).

    – disable -moz-selection:: theme rule, because it’s even overriding site and user css.

  43. Hassan says:

First of all, I’d like to say thank you for all the hard work you do. Your OS X theme is truly the best port for firefox. I just wanted to make suggestion. It’s about the way tabs are shown in mac version of firefox and windows version. In the windows version, the tabs are separated from the bookmarks bar. I mean each tab is separate from the bookmarks bar by a horizontal line. In the mac version, each individual tab extends up to the bookmarks bar..it looks rather good.

This tab-extending-to-the-bookmarks feature is found in another mac os x theme already available for firefox 3.5 (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12782). Was wondering if you could maybe add a toggle for this “look” of the tabs.

Keep up the great work and thanks again :)

Hey guys I modified the Foxdie 3.5.2 installer and got it to work under Firefox 3.6.*
    -
    Here is the download link:
    -
    http://rapidshare.com/files/343279627/foxdie_352.xpi
    -
(John –the author of the Foxdie theme– had nothing to do with this. This is STRICTLY a user-contributed compatibility update. It is NOT an official update)
    -
To install, first uninstall any other version of Foxdie you may have. Then download the above .XPI file to a convenient place like your desktop. Make sure that your browser does not add the .ZIP extension to the file. Then, launch Firefox and drag the .XPI file into the Firefox window. It will ask “Are you sure you want to install?” just click “Install Now”. Then apply the theme, restart Firefox and that is it! Foxdie on Firefox version 3.6.*
