Foxdie 3.1.9.1 with Subthemes is available!

Thursday, August 20th, 2009 by John Locke Categories: Firefox, Themes Tags: , , 132 Responses

go check www.foxdie.us/download

Instruction:

3.1.9 was upgraded from 3.1.0, but it was originally designed for Firefox 3.0 not Firefox 3.5,
Due to your waiting for the final perfect Foxdie 3.5 theme which I haven’t finished, I fixed 10 bugs of 3.1.0 to make it compatible with Firefox 3.5, but there are still many bugs in 3.1.9

2 ways to customize Foxdie:

  • Tools—->Foxdie for Firefox
  • Or click on the fox icon at the left of status bar to show that popup menu.

What’s new:

  1. Toolbar Buttons
  2. Favicons customization
  3. Misc. Setting
  4. Sub themes Switcher, with this, everything is very easy to apply, forget about the userChrome hacking I provided before
  5. Some changes to Snow Leopard styles, I am doing more about this :)
  6. Draggable elements added…

What’s next

  1. Backgrounds changing
  2. Tab stuffs
  3. Changing to Snow Leopard gray color
  4. Fix Glasser extension
  5. I’ll change the new GUID back to the old one on in AMO later…

foxdie 3.1.9.1

Even ackowledging the notification (so forcing notification bar to disappear) didn’t force the parent frame to stay — it continued to flicker. By navigating away from that frame revert the theme to its correct behaviour.

If theme install manager complaints, telling you that it can’t install this version because it is for FF 3.5.* – just ignore it, and click OK. Now go and install the 3.1.0 version for FF 3.0+ (the matching variant, or both), then (after restarting FF) uninstall the older one. You’ll have the 3.1.9.1 version working just fine and smoothly in FF 3.0.* …. :P ;) :D

Edit: sorry to write a second post, but can you include the safri-like tabs in foxdie 3.1.9.2. If you’re going to ask me why i’m not using Safari in the first place: it’s because even when i have a WB skin on, Safari still has taht distinguished XP yellow color in the background. ;) Anyway, keep up the good work AND Don’t change the logo! I love it so much, i’ve actualy set it as my avatar in Skype. ;)

Edit2: I found out how to fix the color mismatch: i just hid the menubar. :)

    (Quote)

  90. John Locke says:

    @simsfan96

Yes, the reason I want you to show me a screen shot is that I want to make sure if you are hiding menubar or not… You know, in Mac OS X, the menu bar isn’t in applications but top of the screen, this is a big difference from Windows and Linux, so I have to set the menubar’s background as the Mac’s title bar background image, because most windows users don’t use WB/VS themes, try imagining blue(or other colors) window title bar–>mac gray menubar–>mac gray navigation toolbar, this has to be the basic setting of this theme. With this, when you are hiding Firefox’s menubar, which should be hided to look better in a Mac theme, you will get the exactly same looking as in Mac OS X.

I was planning show you some screen shots before, but since you have known about the menubar thing, I think I should cancel my screen shots :)

I want to tell you in advance here: I’ve changed version 3192 into Snow Leopard color(lighter), so even when you are hiding the menubar with a 10.5 Leopard WB/VS theme, it will mismatch. I think it’s time for those guys to change WB/VS theme color into Snow Leopard.

I set Foxdie’s default style into Camino style(Camino toolbar button, Camino bookmarks toolbar and Camino tab bar).
Why? Because before my first releasing of my Safari theme in 2007, there were some other Safari themes by others, and I don’t want people thinking I’m doing some copy and mod thing, I decided to make mine into something that nobody have made before, I pick Camino, and my other themes will be sub themes of it. Safari sub theme will be in version 3.5 not 3192, the codes changes are big… (btw, after Foxdie 3.5 launching, I’ll make other themes, I’ve been tired of Mac style)

Why there is a little space at the left of the first tab?
Because this is my taste, every theme will have same thing like this, also Safari 3 has 8px space there and safari 4 has 9px.

As for the textbox of this blog, I have no idea and I’ll change into another blog theme in future :)

The last thing is that, I should upload version 3192 these 2 days, but I’ve been changing some basic codes since last week, codes are mess around and the extension won’t work until I finish these changing, but I will be out without my computer from 1st Oct to 8th Oct, so I have to delay version 3192’s releasing again ;-)

I think i’ll have to wait a while for someone to make a SL WindowBlinds theme, so could you make a background option to have either the Leopard or Snow Leopard background. I know i’ve ben using the it mismatched until now, but it looks so awesome now. And i know i could stay with this version of Foxdie to have a proper skin, but I’d be missing out on the new features.
Also, i had the menubar on there for a reason before: ObjectBar isn’t compatible with all applications, and firefox was one of them.
And(this question is about the smilies) why does the smiling “smiley face” look like a laughing one?

Offtopic: you’ll never guess what a shitty PC i saw today at school:
    CPU: intel pentium 540Mhz
    HDD:4GB (seriously)
    RAM:64Mb :D
    No CD Drive (WTF)
    XP SP2
That comp looked like something from 1989. It would have been better to have a comodore 64 there. :D

It seems that this project has died. It is a real shame as this was a GREAT theme. The older version had more than 3 million Firefox user downloads. If you don’t want to or can’t do it, why not turn the theme over to someone else who will do it.

I wonder what theme these users have switched to now?

I’m afraid I can’t make add Leopard gray back anymore, the Leopard gray changing to SL gray in WB themes is very easy, they just need to change title bar, toolbar and statusbar. I’m sure those people will change it soon :)
And I don’t know why :) looks like :D here

That must be a very old computer ;-)

I don’t think the project will die soon. The project is just delayed. And sometimes, delayed projects turn out to be better, because you get more time to edit things and test them out, which leads to a better, more stable end result. But if the project is really stopped, i’m going to be so @%#ing mad. This theme was truly for me a great resource, since it was the closest thing to Safari, and also :nobody had tried doing what John had done before: Compiling so many sub-themes into one. Heck, i think John was the first to use subthemes in Firefox. Anyway, i’d hate to see foxdie go, since it’s such an innovative resource, when it goes for Web Browser themes. And dumping an awesome project like this at this point is just stupid: people value the resource(got to stop calling it that)and i know John may have a busy schedule, or he wants to try something new. Personally, I’ll only believe it if John says this is true.

    Hi Bob.
Some people switched to Foxdie 3192 last week, because I sent them in advance :P

And you won’t believe how many new features I’ve added in version 3.5, what you have seen on DA are about 1/4 of them. Yes, but stuffs are still messing around here before I finally finish them and get them ready to be released…

Now I’m really tired of answering question like this…

if anyone want it now, email me, but I’ll be out from 2nd Oct to 7th Oct, so I’m afraid I can’t reply you during these 6 days :)

Edit: Actually I’m not the first one who make sub themes, but the first one who make sub themes as full themes(in foxdie 1.* for FF 2 and foxdie 3.5 for FF 3.5 later, sure will be also for FF 3.6, 3.7 and 4.0…)

P.S.: Why does this dialog box saying “Whaa? Never Heard no background.css” come up, when i try to change an element of the theme? It doesn’t happen on my other computer.

2 of those 4 persons fixed it in this way :)
