How to get Red, Yellow and Green traffic lights?

Friday, August 7th, 2009 by John Locke Categories: Firefox Tags: , 44 Responses

Some people ask me how to get these red, yellow and green traffic lights as the first screen shot below on Windows.

Actually I’ve explained that in FAQs, but now I think I should add a new post with some images explaining that more clearer.

7. Q: I’m on Windows, how can I get the Mac’s title bar with the red, yellow and green traffic lights?

A:That’s not controlled by Firefox and Thunderbird but your 3rd party Windows OS theme like Visual Style or WindowBlinds.

You can always find more at deviantART, for instant, here is a link showing you how to get some similar AMAZING stuffs

Linux users can use Mac4Lin on Gnome. It really looks like a real-mac ;) (Thanks, Cicero)

The 1st screen shot is in Mac, the 2nd one is in Windows with Zune theme, to get the same Mac’s title bar with these traffic lights, you can use a Mac style VS/Windowblinds theme on Windows, Linux users can use Mac4Lin on Gnome.

If you don’t want to change your OS theme, try Hide Caption or Hide Caption Title, then you can also get what the 3rd screen shot has. But if you get 6 traffic lights with this way, do the following

1. type about:config in Location bar, enter.

2. search extensions.hide_caption.show_nav_close_btn in the Filter, set its value to false by double clicking on it.

NOTE: Hide Caption and Hide Caption Title might cause bugs to Foxdie, I’m not sure and I’m not using it.

Cheers :)

Hey John, first of all, thanks for this great theme, I love it! I’m using your 3rd option with Hide Caption on windows vista, but only the last (red) button looks like your picture. The others look like normal windows old buttons (the ‘minimize’ is a line and the ‘restore’ are two squares). Am I doing something wrong?

    You are welcome Paulo
Because Hide Caption changed some codes after I made those traffic lights for it last time, and I didn’t notice its change until last night when I took this screen shot, so I’ve just fixed it again 20 hours ago, and I’ll send you a version with that fixed later, by email :)

Nice job you’ve done with firefox (font, icons, etc), think it’s the best theme.

    Looking forward to foxdie 3.5
