About the theme…

Friday, July 17th, 2009 by John Locke Categories: Themes Tags: 44 Responses

There are many confusing options in Foxdie 3.5, so I’m finding some better ways to make them all easier to apply, that’s why I haven’t released it yet :)

But I will fix 4 bugs of foxdie 3.1.0 and bump it to 3.1.9 to make it work with Firefox 3.5 later, it’s not the original version 3.5 I’ve been showing on http://tanjihay.deviantart.com/art/Foxdie-3-1-0-60350715, it’s just the ones I uploaded on AMO before, the final 3.5 will be a brand new theme with countless new features.

What I’ll fix and change in 3.1.9:
1. Bookmarks hover background on bookmarks toolbar
2. Scrollbars
3. Searchboxs
4. Searchbar

It can work on FF 3.5 but it’s NOT designed for FF3.5, the one designed for FF3.5 is Foxdie 3.5, I know I’m repeating and I’m gonna shut up…

    Hallo :)

It used to work but I didn’t notice when it stop working.

Go into your chrome folder, create a .txt file and rename it with userChrome.css.
Here is the path to your Firefox’s chrome folder, Thunderbird’s will be the same.

    Mac OS X ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/chrome/

    Windows 9x/Me
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\chrome\

    Windows 2000/XP/2003
    C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\chrome\

    Windows Vista
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\chrome\

    Linux ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/chrome/

then it will work again :)

    Cheers

  31. McGuire says:

There are two ways to have the Foxdie themes work in FF 3.5/3.51.

    First way -

Install the FF addon Nightly Tester Tools, then install the theme. The maximum version will be ignored.

    Second way -

Download the theme to your HD (right click and save). The Jar file is the same as a ZIP file. Using 7Zip:

    1. Open the saved theme and edit the ‘install.rdf’ file.
    2. Change the em:maxVersion line to be ‘3.6a1pre’
    3. Save the change.
    4. Close the Jar file.
    5. Reinstall the theme from your HD.

The theme works better in 3.5/3.51 then it did in 3.0.

Now John Locke will have time to do whatever he wants, and you will have a functioning theme under 3.5/3.51.

There have been 3,080,717 total DLoads of the Foxdie themes. I know you want perfection in what you provide, but there is no such thing as perfection. We, your devoted users, want a theme that works right now WHILE you work on making whatever additional changes that you have planned.

I provided the above post out of frustration with waiting. It was bad enough to go from FF 2.0 to FF 3.0 without the theme I had before, but it is worse to go from FF 3.0 to 3.5 and beyond with incessant waiting for perfection for a theme that is terriffic.

What I am saying: it is better to provide something (especially when it works), then to make everyone wait for who knows how long.

    John Locke,

I really appreciate and admire your Foxdie themes. Your meticulousness and attention to detail are readily apparent in your themes – they are simply outstanding. I’ve been hard-pressed to find even the smallest of flaws in your themes!

I disagree somewhat with McGuire’s previous post. On the one hand, I can readily understand McGuire’s frustration and impatience in waiting for the 3.5 Foxdie theme. Especially with Mozilla having released Firefox version 3.5 on June 30th.

However, whenever there is a major upgrade or release of Firefox there are inevitably bugs and extension incompatibilities. For instance, Mozilla released 3.5.1 last Friday, just 17 days after officially releasing 3.5. While Mozilla shakes down its latest release, I’d much rather have John Locke/tanjihay work on refining/polishing his latest theme!!! I’m sure John/tanjihay will publish Foxdie 3.5 before the end of August.

Ironically, the perfection that McGuire writes about is the very thing that makes the Foxdie themes so outstanding!

Therefore, John, keep working as you always have! You produce outstanding software.

p.s. I’m biased, being a longtime mainframe software developer. I understand just how time consuming and labor intensive it is to test software prior to releasing it for users!

I started the development of Foxdie 3.5 in about September 2008, and I’m tired of bugs reporting, so I put myself into every details, it will be a perfection when it is released.

Actually I didn’t plan to release versions for Firefox 3 before, but due to people’s waiting, I downgraded something from 3.5 to release foxdie 3.0.x,
btw, versions 3.0-3.1.0 are craps comparing with 3.5.

    edit:
oh I didn’t notice “do/does” is your point, about the “somebody will/may/must/can do something” and “somebody make somebody do”, I never forget these rules, but I have some troubles on the typing thing.

what I’ve lost is something like this, “something be worthy of doing” and “something be worth doing”, see? I guess I am wrong on these grammars

    Thanks anyway :)
